After Reading
1. This book had many messages and I think that one of them was that it didn’t matter that Muslims killed his daughter, Sunya didn’t and that’s okay. You cannot judge everybody just because of one person.
Another message that I think was in the book was that Jamie accepted that his dad did what he did for Rose because he was sad. You can’t judge someone for what they do until you really understand why they do it.
When Jamie thinks that his mum was always trying to help them he realised that she didn’t care about them as much as he thought she did. You can’t judge somebody until you really get to know them or see them again.
Even though their mum walked out on the family and didn’t care about them anymore, their dad stayed with them the entire time. Families always stick together and there is always someone that cares even if you don’t realise it.
2. I think that after the book has ended, many things would have changed for the family. Jamie and Jas would have forgotten about their mum and their dad would look after them. Now that the urn isn’t on the mantlepiece, their dad would pay more attention to them and they wouldn’t argue as much. Sunya would now be talking to Jamie again after he stuck up for her at school. Their mum may have walked out on the family but their dad didn’t, and Jamie realises this at the end of the book because even though all kinds of terrible things happened to the family, their dad stayed with them the entire time.
3. I would not change anything about the book. This book was great and if I could change it I wouldn’t change anything because it was perfect. However, I think that in the end their mum should be mentioned more because one of the last times she is mentioned is when she says that she likes Jamie’s shirt and asks him where he got it.
